Final Outcomes - Let there be Light! Project “Let there be light!”seeks to communicate the importance of light and natural surroundings in creating comfortable living spaces. I took advantage of the existing architectural elements of the site, my bedroom, being on the second floor and it’s pleasing view of the leafy surrounding neighbourhood by incorporating a balcony and an additional east-facing window in my models. As evident in the lighting + photography exercise, the manipulation of the technical elements of form, lighting and shape transformed the area into a more open, liveable space.  Thus, I was able to communicate both the built environment and my own design aesthetic. 3 Minute Presentation on this Project

Bedroom Model Studio Activities Analysing the Site Dimensions: 3m x 3.4m x 2.6m\Length (along window) x Width x Height Window wall is northern facing and shelving wall is eastern facing. Paper Model of Bedroom Scale : 1: 30 Iterated Model of Bedroom Model 1:  (Scale 1: 20) Added a veranda and window to the room and included roofing in the model.       Model 2: (Scale 1: 30) I added a feature wall. Fusion 360 Application of Room: Balsa Wood Model I placed the detached components onto a drawing pad ready to be printed. I only had access to an A4 printer so subsequently the model was scaled down as compared to the original size. I traced around the printed cutouts of the shape onto balsa wood, This was time consuming but produced a sturdy box in which all the tabs fit together easily.

Iterative Model of Bedroom SCALE 1:20 I made a refined iteration of the paper + cardboard models made during week five and six.  Included is a human figure to indicate scale. Photographing Your Model Exercise  I dramatised the lighting and experimented with different angles to better understand how the space responded to light. I placed particular emphasis on shining the light through the side window as it corresponds to the east facing wall in my room and would similarly receive direct sunlight in the mornings.

Week 7 Initials Exercise (MY INITIALS ARE JMC) I made a few attempts for this exercise as I had originally chosen to use the initials JSC. Issues arose once I had tried to loft the three faces (as seen below), and I made two further attempts trying to round out the letters and soften the sharp corners. After recognising that the main issue was connecting the curviest letter, S, to the others, I eventually chose to use the initial of my other middle name, Mildred.  After adjusting all three letters to be more rounded and  stylistic, I was able to create a solid component with an interior thickness of 1.5mm. The final 3D model is shown below.  Material Experimentation: Week 8 Activity Whilst experimenting with rendering the 3D model, I wanted to choose materials that reflected my design intent to bring light and air to my models. Fusion360 Lazer Printing Activity Inspired by a hallway space in my house, this was my final 3-D shape using three rectangular prisms. Bottom View  Top View The following images are the separate components being laid out ready to be sent to Illustrator.  This is the final shape laid out in Illustrator in accordance to the Design Labs Laser Cutting Instructions. Although I will not be laser cutting this and instead making a cardboard model, it was a great exercise to learn how to format files for future laser cutting projects.
